As a division of the NHS, Thrive sets out to meet the needs of mental healthcare provisions, through a hands on approach. The brief was wide and varied. Thrive offer one-to-one support throughout the local community, therefore, it was vitally important that the feel of the imagery was honest and approachable. Our primary focus was to concentrate on the use of light within the imagery.
Talking with the members of staff delivering the support, it was clear that they wanted to focus on the successful nature of what they do. The ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ became the metaphor for all the photographs. A key focus was to address the positive use of body language and facial expression to ensure communication was sincere, which was incredible important to the subject matter.
During the research element, we analysed the message coming from, what may be considered their ‘competitors’. What we noticed was the constant focus on ‘the now’ and not on ‘the future’. This resulted in very dark, ominous and impersonal messages being communicated, enhancing the stigma that Thrive were keen to avoid.
